1996 March Urgent Special General Meeting

Members are hereby advised that in accordance with Rule 11, a Special General Meeting of members shall be held in two parts to consider the questions set out below. Details of the meeting are as follows:

  • CONSIDERATION OF 1996 S/O’S EXAMINATION POSITION AND STOP-WORK ACTION BY ON-SHIFT MEMBERS

State Committee of Management resolution 24/4/96 – (see attached):

“That the correspondence from the Department dated April 22, 1996 concerning the December 1996 Station Officers’ Examination be received, and that owing to the Department’s inability to arrive at any definitive position, together with its confrontational approach for which this meeting condemns management and Asst. Comm. Hume in particular, State Committee of Management resolves to adhere to the clear expectations of the rank and file in demanding the promotion of all successful candidates in accordance with the agreed merit list prior to any other system of promotion being agreed to and subsequently implemented. The Department’s correspondence is to be distributed together with a notice calling a Special General Meeting of members in accordance with Rule 11, to be held at Trades Hall, Friday 10th May at 1000 hours. This meeting  is to be held in one section only, during which the State Committee of Management shall recommend to members present that a stop work of all on-shift members in the GSA be called to allow those members to participate in the debate over further Union actions to achieve a fair and equitable outcome for all members seeking promotion. ”
