Recalls to Picton – Return transport of gear

August 7, 2003

It has come to the attention of the Union that the Department are cynically manipulating the Award provisions relating to the transport of members gear back to their base station when they do a recall to Picton. In particular when members put in a claim for return kilometres for transporting their own gear (pursuant to sub clause 9.7.1 of the Award), W6 management assert that the Truck running out of No.85 Stn was available at that time and deny the claim. This is despite the fact that the truck may not have actually been available.

Accordingly, all members are instructed that when notified of a recall to Picton, they should ascertain from the Inspector if the Department is able to transport their gear back to their base station. If the Inspector indicates that the Department can do so, then members are to leave their gear at Picton. If the Inspector indicates that the Department cannot, then members are instructed to request written confirmation (fax, email, Occurrence Book notation etc) from the Inspector that they will receive return kilometres in accordance the Award. If the Inspector is unwilling to generate such a record, then members are instructed to leave their gear at Picton for the Department to transport.
