Easter Sunday – Retained members
Retained members are reminded that any and all work performed between 0001 and 2400 hours on Easter Sunday, 16 April should be paid at overtime rates (see Retained Award subclause 6.10.3). Why only Easter Sunday? Because, like permanent members, retained members are already compensated for working the other regular public holidays throughout the year in the Award’s hourly rates of pay. Easter Sunday was not a public holiday until the previous Labor Government made it one in 2011.
The Union understands that some zones have issued instructions for retained stations to avoid authorised duties and to confine work on Easter Sunday to incident response only. While this appears reasonable, there may be some exceptions for unexpected, time-critical duties (eg an emergency restow).
Easter Sunday – Permanent members
Any permanent member of Inspector rank and below who works between 0001 and 2400 hours this Easter Sunday, 16 April will be credited with the same number of hours of consolidated leave as the hours worked (see Permanent Award subclause 6.4.2). The rostered shifts fall as follows:
Back to Back Roster
E Platoon = 12 hours consolidated leave (0600 to 1800 hours)
B Platoon = 8 hours consolidated leave (0001 to 0800 hours)
D Platoon = 10 hours consolidated leave (0800 to 1800 hours)
A Platoon = 6 hours consolidated leave (1800 to 0000 hours)
24 hour roster:
A Platoon = 8 hours consolidated leave (0001 to 0800 hours)
D Platoon = 16 hours consolidated leave (0800 to 0000 hours)
Members who work on Easter Sunday for any reason, including overtime, will also accrue the same number of hours of consolidated leave as the hours worked that day. This consolidated leave is in addition to the overtime paid for that work.
Members who are rostered to work on Easter Sunday but do not actually work on the day for any reason, including any form of leave or a part change of shift, will not be credited with the consolidated leave. Members who work a change of shift on Sunday get the consolidated leave, not the member who was rostered to work.
Updates from SITREP 14
SITREP 14 flagged updates on two important items in this week’s edition – today’s deadline for the Union’s response to the Department’s Risk Based Response Protocol (RBRP), and further advice on members’ entitlements for the recent cyclone and flood emergencies. The Union has sought further meetings with the Department on both matters next week, and has requested that the RBRP remain on hold pending those discussions. More, then, on both issues in SITREP 16.
