Members would be aware of the Union’s grave concerns over Stargarden, the Department’s payroll system.  This week has again highlighted the ongoing and chronic problems that continue to plague member’s pay.

For this fortnight’s pay, the Department has advised the Union that it is to pay everyone this fortnight based on their entitlements for the previous pay fortnight.  By this gross display of ineptitude, the Department will either underpay or overpay many members with respect to casual overtime and some allowances.  To compound the effect on the membership, deductions (including non authorised increases in union dues) will also be incorrect.  The Department proposes to make an adjustment in subsequent pays to counterbalance underpayments / overpayments in this pay.

The Union ban on accommodation at the Eastwood Training Facility has been lifted by resolution of the Union’s State Committee of Management.

The lifting of the ban, effective 0800 hrs Monday 3 March, 1997,  follows the negotiation of an interim accommodation protocol and significant improvements to facilities for firefighters accommodated at Eastwood. [Read more]

On 5 February 1997, the Union wrote to the Department in relation to the inadequate accommodation at Woolgoolga Fire Station.

Today the Union was notified by members that the Department intends to move FBY 418 to Macksville.  This action has been undertaken without consultation with the Union despite the fact that the Union has made attempts to initiate discussions on the matter. [Read more]

Members would be aware of the dispute surrounding the settlement of Awards for both permenant and retained members, following over six months of negotiations between the Union, Department and NSW Government. Through the imposition of statewide bans last Friday 20/12/96, and stop-work action throughout the GSA Monday 23/12/96, the Union’s membership forced the satisfactory conclusion of the dispute late today, Tuesday 24/12/96. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE DISPATCH OF THE NOTICE TO ALL STATIONS VIA TELEPRINTER, GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES CONTACTED THIS OFFICE TO ADVISE THAT AN OFFER FOR 18% WAS IN THE PROCEES OF BEING FAXED THROUGH.
