2027 AWARD NEGOTIATIONS – UPDATE

As outlined in SitRep 32/2026, this week has been busy with Award negotiation meetings occurring every day to progress key items including Retained Reform, Modern Day Firefighter and Relativities, the Relieving Model and Allowances (in particular GLR and other Specialist Rescue Allowances).

On Monday evening, we have scheduled a joint Retained Reform Update and Workshop with Retained firefighters who participated in the Retained Reform Forum in March, to report back and seek feedback from Retained firefighters on the proposed models being developed through Award negotiations.

I can confirm that we are looking at a significant investment in the Retained System with the model currently being developed incorporating key principles from our Log of Claims including payment for availability, minimum safe staffing requirements, and a review of Retained training and qualifications.

We have also begun the initial discussions regarding the provision and value of GLR and other Specialist Rescue Allowances, the Relieving Model and the Modern Day Firefighter/Relativities claims which was one of the requirements set by the IRC out of 2024 Award arbitration and also a key component of our Log of Claims.

We will continue to keep members updated as we progress. Further meetings are scheduled across all next week.

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
State Secretary
