FUEL PRICE IMPACT ADVOCACY

Over the past month, conflict in the Middle East has caused the price of fuel to skyrocket, with no sign of slowing down, even with the Federal Government’s cuts to the fuel excise set to come into effect later this week.

Rather than wait around and hope prices come down, today I wrote to the Prime Minister, Premier, and relevant State and Federal Ministers, seeking real action to increase and/or supplement the kilometre allowance paid to Retained and Permanent staff for performing official duties.

You can see the letter to the Prime Minister here, and the Premier here.

When you drive a personal vehicle on official duties, you are giving the Department the benefit of your personal vehicle, and you should be remunerated appropriately when the cost of operating your personal vehicle increases dramatically like we have seen over the past month.

I have also asked the Premier to confirm that if rationing or other fuel management practices come into effect, that all FBEU members will be exempt from any caps, limits, or bans on purchasing fuel, to allow you to continue performing your duties as required.

The FBEU is keeping a close eye on the fuel situation, and will continue to liaise with Government as required.

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
State Secretary
