D&D settlement explained (Pt 1)
June 1, 2002
The joint NSWFB/FBEU statement issued yesterday was only a very brief summary of what is clearly a complex agreement. It’s understandable that many members might be confused by that, however the only real way to answer all members’ questions and to explain all of the detail is to hold a series of Special General meetings which will follow in the coming week.
In the interim, the following tables are provided to give a more practical indication of the sort of benefits provided under the negotiated outcome. For these examples we’ve used the current annual salary of a Senior Firefighter ($48,048) for permanents, and for retained the 2000/01 state wide average of actual retained earnings ($6,335). All lump sum payments shown below would be in addition to any workers comp which might be payable.

OFF-DUTY PPI
Permanents
Redeployment within the NSWFB, or retraining for up to two years prior to exit, or a lump sum payment based on a combination of the two (eg 1 year’s retaining and 1 year’s pay = $48,048 lump sum, or immediate exit with 2 years’ pay = $96,096 lump sum).
Retained
2 years’ pay based on actual retained earnings (eg $12,670 lump sum).
More details will be released over the coming week, however all members are again urged to make the effort to attend one of the forthcoming Special General Meetings. Details of those meetings will be circulated on Monday.
