Telephone Payments – No Agreement on “Reasonable”

March 16, 2001

The Department has recently attempted to enforce its telephone usage policy, as promulgated in In Orders 2000/22, by serving some members with STD bills for their station. However, there has been no formal agreement reached with the Union on what might be considered to be “reasonable” personal use of station phones and as such, members are hereby directed not to make any payment towards Departmental telephone expenses unless advised otherwise by way of a further Union notice. That being said, members should of course continue to exercise suitable constraint when making personal STD and/or calls to mobile telephones from stations/workplaces.
