Union secures improved subsidised rental

February 16, 2006

Also taking effect on and from the 3 March will be a decrease in the contributions of members occupying subsidised accommodation. Currently members contribute the lesser of either 50% of the market rental, or 5% of their salary. This usually works out to be 5% of salary, but from 3 March those contributions will go down to 4% of the member’s salary.

In addition, the criteria by which the market rental (and thus the subsidy) is determined will increase from a 3 bedroom property to a 4 bedroom property, which will have the practical affect of increasing the subsidy received by members. The new subsidies will be implemented immediately, although members wishing to take up new accommodation as a result of these changes will bear the cost of relocation.
