Retained Pager Dispute update
Yesterday in the Industrial Relations Commission, the FBEU and FRNSW discussed the dispute around the Retained turnout system, specifically the mobile phone alerts.
As an interim arrangement to allow discussions and the case to continue, FRNSW have agreed to not turn off any further mobile phone responses until 31 October.
The FBEU have agreed to lift the code red of 2 September 2021.
With the immediate threat of phone-based turnouts being turned off gone, there is no need for the associated code red.
If any station has their phones turned off between now and 31 October, please contact us immediately. We remain hopeful that FRNSW will come to their senses and provide a backup option for Retained turnouts.
Just this week our Commissioner spoke to a media conference about the importance of redundancy around radios, satellite, 4G and communications when it comes to fire trucks, but failed to mention the importance of physical redundancy for Retained staff.
We will continue negotiating in good faith in the Industrial Relations Commission to try and get a resolution on this issue. We will keep you updated as the matter progresses.
