CODE RED – Station Design Guidelines Meeting Ban

Members may be aware that the Department and the FBEU have been consulting on standard design guidelines which would be applied to all new station builds, reducing consultation time and delivering high standard builds for each site.

We have reached the tail end of the process, with the Department due to report back on a cost analysis of direct diesel extraction and other safety measures for stations.

Unfortunately, at the last minute, the Department has organised a meeting to finalise these details, without seeking FBEU availabilities, and which the FBEU is unable to attend, and has refused to reschedule the meeting.

The Department deciding to walk away from the cooperative spirit of this consultative process and abandoning the goodwill that has been generated through the process is deeply regrettable.

The FBEU will not be bullied by the Department into rushing towards accepting these designs or doing so without full consultation occurring.

Therefore, until further notice, no members are to attend any meeting held by the Department relating to Design Guidelines until consultation gets back on track. This includes HSRs and management.

All FBEU members who were invited to attend the upcoming meeting will be advised of an alternate meeting to attend with the FBEU instead, and are directed to attend that meeting in lieu of the Department’s meeting.

This instruction will remain in place until otherwise advised by the State Secretary.

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
State Secretary
