CODE RED – 25 SEPTEMBER 2021

September 25, 2021

On 20 August the FBEU put in place the code red advising members to adhere to level 4 restrictions. This code red was implemented as your Union felt that FRNSW was not taking serious enough measures to do everything in their power to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The catalyst for the code red was based on the contactless change over document which FRNSW has still yet to release. Further to this FRNSW have informed the FBEU of their intention to rewrite the pandemic restriction levels. To date, FRNSW have failed in their attempts to provide a document which adequately addresses the transmission risk faced by our members.

The FBEU has received evidence of individual members being vilified through the incorrect deduction of leave and/or salary in response to members adhering to the contactless changeover. It is unacceptable for FRNSW to take direct action against members for following an FBEU directive, especially when FRNSW are yet to negotiate a different process. This sets an alarming precedent which puts all members at risk and the FBEU will not stand for it.

FRNSW have refused to reconsider the action taken against members, therefore, effective immediately members are hereby instructed to only use the below codes when sending a stop message at an AFA. This instruction remains in place until further notice from the State Secretary.

Code 100 – (Actual fire reported by fire system)

Code 702 – (Alarm operated due to extreme weather conditions-rain, storm, lightning, thunder, dust, flood, rainwater leaking onto detector, etc)

Code 706 – (Council or water supply authority causes pressure fluctuation through water mains)

Code 707 – (Alarm operated due to power surge/spike or short circuit, blackout)

Code 751 – (Smoke detector operated – smoke from external source e.g. bushfire)

Code 762 – (Unintentional alarm e.g. accidental activation of Break Glass Alarm or Manual Control Point, damaged sprinkler head not attributed to owner/occupant)

Code 902 – (COVID – cause unable to be determined)

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
State Secretary
