SitRep 39/2026

October 30, 2026

RULE CHANGES – ELECTRONIC VOTING – CORRECTION

Further to SitRep 38/2026 issued earlier today, members are asked to print out the rule change which was adopted by the State Committee, and place a copy of the rule change on your station notice board. The rule change document is available here.

In accordance with Rule 47, the rule change will go into effect in 28 days, unless, under Rule 47 of the Union Rules, a request is received for a plebiscite to be conducted to allow the decision to be made by the membership on the rule change.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT RESPONSES – UPDATE #1

Following from SitRep 8/2026, the FBEU and the Department have been reviewing Hazmat responses. The Union has been raising missed responses and other issues directly with Comms, which has led to the process being strengthened, and better adherence to the Hazmat Policy.

One issue has been raised with us by many Retained crews in particular, which is the automatic response to “MVA Fluid on Roadway”, many of which have been far outside of Fire District. Reports to the Union are that most of these responses are just coolant or water, as opposed to oil, fuel, or some other hazardous material. Crews are becoming frustrated at long drives where they are not actually performing any Hazmat function.

To reduce unnecessary responses, the Department and the FBEU have agreed that MVA Fluid on Roadway will be an automatic response of FRNSW appliances in Fire District and any RFS District which operates under a Mutual Aid Zone, but will not otherwise be automatic.

The RFS have been informed that they are to assess any spillage at an MVA Fluid on Roadway incident, and call for FRNSW if the fluid is anything other than coolant or water.

Thank you to members who have been providing feedback to the Union office. As always, if you become aware of an incident where you should have been responded but were not, in the first instance, raise it through the chain of command. If you’re not happy with the response, contact the Union office for assistance.

UPDATING YOUR ADDRESS AND CONTACT DETAILS

Members are encouraged to update their address, email, and mobile phone number with the FBEU Office when any of these details change. We always prefer that you provide a personal email address so that Union emails are not going to your work email. You can update your contact details at any time by filling out the form by clicking here.
