Assist Ambulance Update

Following on from SitRep 36 the Department and NSW Ambulance have been developing a Service Level Agreement (SLA) to clarify roles and responsibilities at Assist Ambulance calls. We are currently reviewing the SLA and will be providing feedback early next week.

Also, of note is that NSWA communication members have been told to manage assist loads internally and only seek assistance of other agencies where this cannot be achieved in a timely or clinically appropriate manner. NSWA should also be providing other relevant incident scene information such as age and condition of patient, location of the patient within the building e.g. floor level of the building and room.

All members are still advised that appropriate resources for Domestic Rescues, of which Assist Ambulance falls under, is a rescue appliance and the local appliance.

Further update to follow next week.

AGMs Coming Up

The FBEU Annual General Meeting will be held in late October where it is our intention members be asked to endorse a log of claims for your Award negotiations. We are currently working on the logistics of these meetings in the COVID19 environment and will be back with formal notice of the meeting shortly.

Delegate Meetings

As COVID restrictions are still in place, our organisers are still not able to come back into stations and be face-to-face with you all as much as we would hope. We are unsure when the situation with COVID will allow us to systematically visit. The Zoom meetings have also proved really successful and accessible for delegates from across NSW and so it’s likely we’ll keep them in place in an ongoing way.

Organisers will be hosting Zone based zoom meetings bi-monthly and Ad Hoc as needed around issues.

These meetings allow delegates to discuss local issues, discuss state-wide-issues and connect with each other, staff and elected State Committee members.

There is another round of these meetings kicking off next week, I encourage you to get involved. You can see the schedule of meetings here – and contact your organiser for more info.

As always, if your station does not already have a delegate, please contact your relevant organiser and they can assist you.

Georgie Slater – Metro North, Regional North, ME3 – gslater@fbeu.net 0417 924 151

Jonathon Wright – Metro South (Minus MS3), Regional South, ME 1 and ME 2 – jwright@fbeu.net 0419 753 305

In addition to the above I, and other members of State Committee when I am not available, will be holding short fortnightly briefings for delegates. These quick discussions will fill delegates in on the big issues we are working on and will be critical in keeping you and all members informed as we head to Award negotiations as example.

These briefings will be held EVERY SECOND TUESDAY at 1100hrs, they are set for 30 minutes and they are open to all delegates. Here is the link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86817288238. I really encourage all delegates to come along if you can.

Award Survey

More than 800 members have completed the survey – designed to assist us in developing a log-of-claims and to understand your willingness in taking action to back in a claim and defend your conditions. The survey is open until September 20. Please take the time to share your thoughts and encourage others to do so.

The survey takes an average of 13 minutes: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FBEUAward2021

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
