CODE RED UPDATE – Assist Ambulance Calls

Members are advised that the current Code Red in relation to Assist Ambulance calls is being temporarily suspended, effective immediately, until 4pm Thursday 30 July.

As per the Commissioner’s email this morning, the Department advised the FBEU that they will be consulting with us on changes to State Rescue Policy, which impacts the definitions of both Domestic Rescue and Patient Extrication.

Consultation on this matter will occur at the next Joint Consultative Committee meeting on Wednesday 29 July, where we expect the Department to provide us with a full understanding of the implications of this change.

State Committee is meeting on Thursday 30 July, where we will consider our position regarding the Code Red going forward.

As members are aware, this Code Red has been in place for approximately 2 years without challenge from the Department, however, with the changes to the policy, and pending consultation on that, we have agreed to temporarily suspend the Code Red today.

In Unity,

Leighton Drury
State Secretary
