WATER TANKER STAFFING

October 23, 1998

Owing to the successful conclusion of negotiations for country staffing, the Union has now accepted the de-staffing of the remaining permanently-staffed water tankers. During the course the of the Union’s Special General Meeting in June this year, the rank and file authorised the Union’s State Committee to negotiate the redistribution of those water tankers. Preliminary discussions between the parties have led to the Department advancing the following proposals:

No. 50 Stn, Hornsby

It has been proposed that the water tanker be relocated to No. 75 Stn, Berowra and staffed by the retained members already at 75. If this occurs, the rescue appliance will be relocated to Hornsby. In the event that the SRB does not approve the relocation of 75 rescue to 50 Stn, it is proposed that the water tanker will remain at 50 Stn and 8 retained firefighters will be recruited to staff it.

No. 51 Stn, Forestville

It has been proposed that 51’s water tanker will remain at 51 Stn and 8 retained firefighters will be recruited to staff it.

No. 47 Station, Revesby

It has been proposed that 47’s water tanker will remain at 51 Stn and 8 retained firefighters will be recruited to staff it.

No. 8 Station, Liverpool

It has been proposed that 8’s water tanker will be relocated to the Rescue/Bushfire Section at Chullora, and staffed by the Section’s members for firefighting/hazard reduction where and when needed.

No. 45 Station, Miranda

In consultation with the members at both Menai and Engadine, it has been agreed that 45’s water tanker will be relocated to 90 Stn and 8 retained firefighters will be recruited to staff it.

No. 255 Station, Charlestown

It has been proposed that 255’s water tanker will remain at 255 Stn and 6 additional retained firefighters will be recruited to staff it.

Please note, the Union is yet to approve any of this (other than the move from 45 to 90). The views of members generally – and from the above Stations in particular – as to whether or not these revised arrangements are acceptable would appreciated as soon as possible, and should be conveyed to the Union office prior to the State Committee meeting of November 12. Questions relating to any of the above proposals may be directed to Iain Bailey at the Union office.
